Island Christian Church Holds Annual Beach Baptism

EAST NORTHPORT, N.Y., Aug. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Island Christian Church held it's annual beach baptism event at Robert Moses Beach just before dusk this past Sunday. On this beautiful day, 18 members of Island Christian Church, including men, women, and children, were immersed by various pairs of pastors and deacons in profession of their faith in Jesus.

For Bible-believing Christians, baptism is a joyous, public proclamation of our faith in Christ. This outward act testifies what happened in our heart when we repented our sin and trusted in Christ for salvation. The picture of baptism is the dying of our old life and the beginning of our new resurrected life with Christ. That is why there are no instances of infants being baptized in the Bible, because people must be at an age of accountability. It is referred to it as "believers baptism" because those being baptized need to make the decision to do so for themselves, and must be able to articulate as to why they want to. However, in the New Testament those coming to faith in Christ were baptized right away. At Island Christian Church, baptisms are held during Sunday morning services and at the beach in the summer.

A testimony of one of those being baptized this weekend included these words: "I am being baptized to share with my church family and others that I have accepted Christ as my Savior. It's a way to express, to everyone in my life, the change that's within me. I now better understand the love Christ has for us, knowing that He put our sin to death, and that he welcomes us to have a new life in Him."
