Hitachi Joins the Tokenomics Foundation
Global systems integrator to collaborate on defining standards, benchmarks, and practices for enterprise AI consumption
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Hitachi Digital Services, the global systems integrator powering mission critical platforms, today announced that Hitachi, Ltd. has joined the Tokenomics Foundation as a General Member. Launched by the Linux Foundation, the Tokenomics Foundation aims to establish open, vendor-neutral industry standards, benchmarks and best practices for the economics of AI. Hitachi Digital Services will serve as the representing Hitachi Group company for Hitachi, Ltd.
As organizations move from AI experimentation to production, token consumption is becoming a critical business challenge. Token Economics, or Tokenomics, is the emerging practice of managing the production, consumption and value of AI to generate business outcomes. It gives practitioners a framework for understanding AI’s actual cost in relation to its business impact. By joining the Tokenomics Foundation, Hitachi Digital Services will contribute to that practice to ensure enterprises can scale AI adoption in a financially sustainable manner.
“The next phase of enterprise AI will be defined by how effectively organizations convert infrastructure, energy, data, and intelligence into measurable business outcomes. Tokenomics provides a common language for understanding that value chain, from AI production and token consumption to economic impact,” said Premkumar Balasubramanian, Chief Technology Officer, Hitachi Digital Services and GlobalLogic. “As a global technology and industrial innovator, Hitachi believes open standards and collaborative ecosystems are essential to accelerating responsible AI adoption at scale. We are excited to join the Tokenomics Foundation and to contribute our experience in operational technology, digital engineering, and AI-driven transformation to help shape this emerging discipline.”
Hitachi focuses on digitally transforming social infrastructure, particularly through the use of advanced AI. Helping enterprises accelerate such AI transformations responsibly and pragmatically are key to that goal. Hitachi Digital Services contributes to that mission through its Hitachi Application Reliability Centers (HARC) solutions and other offerings.
HARC resources give enterprises oversight and control of large operational environments. They manage performance, health, reliability, resiliency, and costs related to cloud and software systems (including AI). The forthcoming Tokenomics standards complement HARC objectives and are expected to help Hitachi extend widely accepted FinOps principles into AI operations for stronger AI cost predictability, governance and transparency.
Hitachi’s membership brings to the Tokenomics Foundation a compelling practitioner perspective. Hitachi operates at the intersection of enterprise AI adoption, operational governance, and business outcome realization – going beyond just developing systems, infrastructure or products. The company’s client base spans numerous industrial markets actively adopting AI such as Energy, Healthcare, Manufacturing, and Transportation.
The Tokenomics Foundation’s community will gain insights from Hitachi’s background, particularly direct exposure to:
- High-volume AI consumption in complex, fragmented environments
- Dual token consumption models (input and output tokens)
- Running multiple consumption channels simultaneously (AI Agents executing workflows and AI-assisted software engineering)
“The global economy requires an effective, broadly adopted framework for AI valuation and cost management. We’re eager to bring to market the broadly accepted standards and practices that answer that need,” said J.R. Storment, Executive Director of the Tokenomics Foundation. “The viability of the Tokenomics Foundation’s outputs will rely on the open collaboration between a wide range of industry visionaries including Hitachi. To that end, we are excited to welcome Hitachi and look forward to the collaboration to help better enterprise AI consumption worldwide.”
