Health Care Security Guards Picket in Solidarity with Immigrant Workers
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Health care security guards represented by CUPE 5479 and employed by Paladin Security, a contractor under Nova Scotia Health, are gathering in front of the Nova Scotia Legislature tomorrow to raise awareness for their immigrant colleagues who have been negatively affected by Paladin’s de-listing from the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP).
In December 2024, Paladin Security was de-listed as a NSNP designated employer, which means they can no longer sponsor their employees for permanent residency (PR). This change means that over 100 of their current employees suddenly had their PR applications closed or paused. These workers should not be negatively impacted by an issue between Paladin Security and the Nova Scotia Department of Immigration and Population Growth (NSIPG).
We are calling on Ministers Nolan Young and Michelle Thompson to find a solution that allows the workers who applied for PR prior to Paladin Security’s de-listing to have their applications given fair consideration.
