Gila County Commends Governor Hobbs' Emergency Declaration Amid Severe Flooding

GILA COUNTY, Ariz., Sept. 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Gila County Board of Supervisors is grateful to Governor Katie Hobbs for declaring a State of Emergency in response to the severe flooding that began on September 25. The declaration makes state resources immediately available, including emergency funds, the Arizona National Guard, and coordination through the State Emergency Operations Center.

"This swift action brings much-needed resources to our communities as we respond to a disaster that has already cost lives and damaged critical infrastructure," the Board said in a joint statement.

Current Conditions
Heavy rains overwhelmed waterways in and around Globe, Miami, Claypool, and San Carlos, leading to significant flooding. At least three deaths have been confirmed, with additional people unaccounted for. Nearly 1,000 propane tanks were swept from a distribution facility, creating hazardous conditions, and portions of U.S. 60 remain closed due to debris and flood damage.

Gila County Emergency Management has activated the Emergency Operations Center while County emergency crews, with support from state and regional partners, have deployed search and rescue teams and opened shelters for displaced residents.

Next Steps
The Board extends its appreciation to the county's legislative representatives, Tribal partners, local governments, and first responders for their rapid response.

Residents are urged to avoid flood-impacted areas, heed evacuation instructions, and monitor official alerts for road closures and safety updates.
