Mr. Wheeler is an avid technology entrepreneur and policymaker with a deep understanding of cable and cellular markets. Tom was the 31st Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) appointed under President Barack Obama. Tom served on the Board of the GSMA, a trade association that represents the interests of mobile operators on a global basis.
Throughout his career, Wheeler has advocated for greater consumer privacy rights, putting the issue at the forefront of his political agenda as he took on the largest internet service providers related to issues of consumer data collection, usage, and transparency.
“I understand the need for enterprises to implement identity authentication solutions to protect themselves from online fraud and misuse. But, these solutions should not compromise a user's personally identifiable information downstream,” says Wheeler. “Confirm has constructed a solution that gives corporations a powerful way to authenticate identity without storing the kinds of personally identifiable information that are both typical in traditional identity authentication solutions and unfortunately the focus of cyber attacks.”
“We are pleased to welcome Tom to the Confirm family. His expert opinion on matters of consumer privacy and his deep knowledge and connections in the mobile industry are paramount to our vision of building a sustainable product that does not compromise the privacy of our customers.” Bob Geiman, Confirm Co-founder and CEO

On the twentieth anniversary of the cable television industry, Cablevision magazine selected Wheeler as one of the twenty most influential individuals in the industry’s history.
