Fitch: Colombian Homebuilding Growth Cemented by Government Support

BOGOTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Colombian homebuilding is one of the most dynamic and economically sensitive of Colombia's business sectors, according to a new Fitch Ratings report. Over the last five years the sector grew 6.3% on average each quarter, and Fitch expects this trend to continue in the short term.

'Despite the impact of falling oil prices on public finances and investment, the government has signaled its intent to continue stimulating the homebuilding sector in the short term,' said Jose Luis Rivas, Associate Director in Fitch's Latin America Group.

Fitch believes Colombia's main homebuilding companies are well prepared to withstand sector volatility, given their conservative capital structures and wide interest coverages.
