Fitch Ratings reports in its latest Chilean Non-Life Insurance Dashboard first half of 2015 (1H15) that the Non-Life segment was mainly propelled by fire and earthquake branches, while other branches except credit branches presented a lower growth rate. The non-life segment is affected by the Chilean economy slowdown, although it will maintain its penetration and density indicators.

Limited premium growth reflects the Chilean economic slowdown, while net income was mainly affected by lower investment returns.

The industry maintains an investment portfolio concentrated in low volatility and high credit quality instruments; the lower investment income was driven by a lower interest rate.

It has been an active period of mergers and acquisitions, which eventually will reduce the number of companies in the segment, pressuring prices and increasing competitiveness.
