Nationally, French Bulldog Holds On To The Top Spot

NEW YORK, March 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The French Bulldog took New York City's top spot in the American Kennel Club's (AKC^®) 2024 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S. for the 11^th year in a row.

The French Bulldog was also recognized as the #1 pup in Atlanta, GA and Las Vegas, NV.

Breaking into the top five is the Dachshund, jumping from 9^th in 2023 to 4^th in 2024. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi was knocked out of the top five in 2024, landing in the 10^th spot. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels gained in popularity, going from 10^th to 6^th.

"The love affair with French Bulldogs in New York City is strong," said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo.  "The playful, adaptable breed makes a great companion for apartment or suburban life, but don't forget to do research to make sure you find the right breed for your lifestyle."

The American Kennel Club also announced its nationwide rankings today. It's a three-peat for the Frenchie! The beloved French Bulldog is America's most popular breed for the third year in a row, according to AKC registration statistics.

While the playful and adaptable French Bulldog's popularity shows no signs of slowing, the smart and courageous Cane Corso has been quietly climbing the charts since becoming recognized by the AKC in 2010. Over the past decade, registrations for this loyal breed have increased 414% and it has gone from 48^th most popular in 2014 to 14^th in 2024.
