Expats experience Hangzhou's futuristic everyday life

Hangzhou, China, December 3, 2025 -- A group of expats from Australia, Nepal, Iraq, and Morocco recently embarked on an eye‑opening journey through Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, exploring how the city is shaping the future by blending technology, industry, and ecology.

Their first stop was the Wensan Future Science Technology Experience Center, a space that makes the designs of tomorrow tangible. Here, visitors encountered giant interactive face installations, robot dogs' performances, and brain-computer interface experiments that hint at new possibilities for human-machine interaction.

Even gaming culture was reimagined, with immersive zones dedicated to Black Myth: Wukong. The center not only offered demonstrations but hands‑on experiences, allowing guests to interact directly with innovations that once seemed like science fiction.

The journey continued at Yunqi Town, a pioneering hub of Zhejiang's digital economy. The town is home to leading enterprises such as Alibaba Cloud, as well as research institutes such as Westlake University.

Here, industries from cloud intelligence, aerospace information, and biomedicine converge, with visitors gaining insight into China's digital transformation and enjoying a spectacular 3D flight over West Lake at the town's cinema.

At Wuba Intelligent Tech's outdoor test and training field of Hangzhou humanoid robot pilot base, the group witnessed multifunctional quadruped robots designed to adapt to diverse environments and tasks — climbing stairs effortlessly and performing coordinated movements that underscored their advanced engineering.

At Tongjian Lake, the group discovered how innovation can safeguard natural beauty. Surrounded by flower fields, camping grounds, and water forests, the lake is monitored by drones equipped with hyperspectral imaging systems that automatically patrol the waters, analyze their quality, conduct routine inspections, and issue alerts.

"My experience here has been super futuristic. A lot of technology is blowing my mind," said Jack Torr from Australia. Sophiya Manandhar from Nepal reflected on the harmony she observed, saying, "I've been able to see the innovation of this place and also the beauty. It's really surprising that they know how to balance nature and futuristic things."

For these international visitors, Hangzhou was more than just a destination; it was a living showcase of how innovation, culture, and ecology can intertwine, offering a vivid preview of futuristic lifestyles.
