Event: Policies to Improve Job Opportunities and End Hunger

E-mailWASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Bread for the World Institute is releasing a new report that offers Congress a menu of policies that would improve job opportunities for low-income people in the United States. The Jobs Challenge: Working to End Hunger by 2030 argues that improving job opportunities is the only sustainable path to ending hunger.
The Jobs Challenge will be launched Tuesday, April 10, 9:00 a.m. at the National Press Club. The event opens with a moderated “fireside chat” with Jimmy Kemp of the Jack Kemp Foundation and Jared Bernstein of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. They will discuss ideas to improve job opportunities for low-income workers and create a more inclusive economy.
The event concludes with a panel of diverse experts who will reflect on some of the barriers faced by workers living in poverty and policy solutions that can help them overcome these barriers.
The Jobs Challenge offers a number of recommendations to improve job opportunities and make sure that all jobs provide a pathway out of poverty. These include immigration and criminal justice reform, investments in infrastructure in distressed communities, and increasing the minimum wage.
