Economy Adds 10,000 Financial Jobs in September, Report Says
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 31, 2017
The financial industry added 10,000 jobs in September, a small increase over the 8,000 jobs added in August, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Economic Situation Report released on Friday, October 6, 2017.
"September's employment growth was on par with the rest of the quarter despite losses to the total non-farm payroll employment," said Jay Rollins, owner of FinancialJobsWeb.com, a leading career site specializing in financial job postings. "Job losses within the finance and insurance sector slowed the overall growth of the financial industry for the month. The economy lost 33,000 jobs in September overall."
The financial activities supersector now sits at 8,473,000 employed workers with an unemployment rate of 2.5 percent. Over the last 12 months, the supersector has gained 143,000 jobs at an average rate of 12,000 a month. The financial activities supersector includes employment data from the finance and insurance sector and the real estate, rental and leasing sector.
Last month, the finance and insurance sector; which includes monetary authorities, credit intermediation, securities, commodity contracts, and funds and trusts, and insurance carriers and related activities, added only 4,500 jobs. While the insurance carriers subsector was responsible for adding 10,900 jobs, losses in credit intermediation (-6,000 jobs) brought down the overall number of jobs added to the sector.
The real estate sector added 5,600 jobs in September, mostly distributed between real estate (2,100 jobs) and rental and leasing services (3,700 jobs). Lessors of nonfinancial intangible assets changed little (-200 jobs).
