Coors Light Names L. Xavier Cano Líder of the Year
Cano to Receive $25,000 for a Community Program in Austin
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Coors Light is proud to announce L. Xavier Cano as the winner of the 2017 Coors Light Líder of the Year. For more than 10 years, the Coors Light Líderes program has honored the importance of leadership in the Hispanic community and helped up-and-coming Latino leaders reach their potential.
This national recognition, awarded by popular vote, includes a $25,000 grant from Coors Light for Cano to implement a Latino leadership project for Prospanica, a nonprofit whose mission is to empower Hispanic business professionals to achieve their full educational, economic and social potential. Cano is among 12 outstanding Latino leaders nominated by nonprofit organizations for their leadership. He was nominated by Prospanica, where he serves as president emeritus.
“Xavier Cano embodies phenomenal leadership traits. This is a well-deserved recognition from his peers and the community,” said Alberto Senior, national Latino community efforts lead at MillerCoors. “We are excited to recognize Xavier for his commitment to help his community excel and for always taking the time to coach and mentor community members hoping to achieve their professional ambitions.”
Prior to becoming president, Cano was the director of education and vice president of corporate relations at Prospanica. His accomplishments include organizing more than 40 events and conferences to advance professional Hispanic talent in Austin and working to provide scholarships to students in the Industrial Engineering Department at the University of Houston who have demonstrated both academic success and volunteer leadership. He is the author of the book, Resumes That Stand Out! and has donated more than 1,000 copies to Hispanic professionals. A recent magazine article featured Cano and his techniques for optimizing a resume. Cano also received a letter from former President Barack Obama recognizing his commitment and continuous service to the community.
“It is an honor to be selected by my peers and the community as the 2017 Coors Light Líder of the Year,” said Cano. “Coors Light has a strong track record of investing in the professional development of emerging Latino leaders. I am proud to represent Prospanica and excited to use the $25,000 grant to help the members of my community achieve success.”
Through nonprofit partnerships, signature programs and long-term investments that support economic development, Coors Light is helping to build stronger communities for everyone. Since 2006, the Coors Light Líderes program has recognized and highlighted the achievements of emerging Latino leaders. After 12 finalists are chosen by an expert panel, the winner is selected through an online voting competition supported by a national advertising campaign and robust community outreach. The Coors Light Líderes program offers up-and-coming Latino professionals with leadership tools, resources and networking opportunities. Past Líderes of the Year have developed leadership programs in education, music, professional development, technology and the arts. About Coors Brewing Company
Coors Brewing Company was founded in 1873 by Adolph Coors, who chose the Clear Creek Valley in Golden, Colo., for his new brewery because of the pure water in the nearby Rocky Mountain springs. The brewery’s original and most enduring beer is Coors Banquet (Coors.com, Facebook.com/CoorsBanquet, YouTube.com/OfficialCoorsBanquet), still brewed exclusively in Golden using only Rocky Mountain water and high-country barley. Coors Light (CoorsLight.com, Facebook.com/CoorsLight, @CoorsLight on Twitter, YouTube.com/CoorsLight) was introduced in 1978 and now is the second-best-selling beer in the United States. Triple-filtered smooth Keystone Light (KeystoneLight.com, Facebook.com/KeystoneLight) is one the country’s most popular economy beers. Coors Brewing Company is part of MillerCoors, the U.S. business unit of the Molson Coors Brewing Company.
