New AI assistant gives facilities teams answers backed by their own building data, with links straight to the diagnostics, tasks, and insights behind every figure

BOSTON, Oct. 23, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Clockworks Analytics, a smart building intelligence platform for facility and energy managers and the mechanical and operations service providers who support them, today introduced Sprocket AI Chat, the AI assistant inside the Clockworks Analytics platform. Facilities teams can ask their buildings anything about diagnostics, tasks, equipment, and trend data in plain language, and Sprocket answers using their own building data, processed through Clockworks' industry-leading analytics.

"It all comes down to having the data foundation. Not just data points, but expert systems diagnostic output that AI can sit on top of." - Alex Grace, Chief Commercial Officer, Clockworks Analytics

The same information model and expert-system diagnostics that make Clockworks the most trusted Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD) platform in the industry are what make real AI-powered automation possible. Sprocket works from every dataset Clockworks collects and creates, from raw trend data to engineered diagnostics. Every answer includes links to the diagnostics, tasks, or data behind it, so users can go straight from the chat to action. Sprocket can also build interactive charts right in the chat.

"Sprocket AI is a big leap forward for Clockworks. Its power is rooted in years of disciplined building modeling and expert systems development, providing LLMs grounded and rich asset health knowledge. Sprocket puts the power of this knowledge into every user's hands for every use case," said Nick Gayeski, Co-CEO of Clockworks Analytics.

Dennis Krieger, VP of Product, introduced Sprocket on the main stage at Client Summit 2026 in Pittsburgh. "Sprocket allows you to jump into a conversation with Clockworks and really access all the data and performance information we have throughout your entire building portfolio," said Krieger. "Most AI applications in buildings fail because they lack the foundation needed for accurate results. Clockworks built the data foundation first."

Building automation system (BAS) data is unstructured and AI built on top of basic data just creates more noise. Sprocket answers with engineering-grade insights based on the same transparent, validated, structured data that powers Clockworks: 650,000+ pieces of equipment modeled in the Clockworks information model and 50+ expert systems running advanced analytics every day.

Users can ask questions like "What should I focus on today?", "How much energy am I wasting per building over the last 12 months?", or "What compliance issues do we have right now?" Sprocket, for example, will list the top 10 highest-impact diagnostics that don't have a task yet, and flag recently completed tasks where diagnostics are still happening, meaning the fix didn't solve the problem. Beyond day-to-day prompts, clients are using Sprocket to build complex analyses and research studies that would normally require consultants and major investment, in a fraction of the time. Examples include a supply air temperature reset compliance and persistence assessment, a chiller optimization readiness assessment, and a review of a full year of ASHRAE 180 maintenance tasks to find which can shift to condition-based maintenance.

A Chief Design Engineer at a national healthcare client, after two days of using Sprocket to analyze a portfolio of buildings, said:

"In years past, a report like the two we just produced would have been a million-dollar research project, funded by the state and requiring untold hours of researcher time. The fact that you and I produced that much in roughly 48 hours is game-change territory."

Sprocket adheres to the strong security principles Clockworks has always embraced. Building data stays within the Clockworks Azure environment where it lives today. The AI model runs on Azure, Sprocket sees only what each user is already allowed to see, and the large language model (LLM) provider does not train its models on customer data.

At Client Summit 2026, Krieger previewed what comes next for Sprocket: Sprocket throughout every feature in Clockworks, and a Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server that connects Clockworks AI to tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.

Sprocket is part of a longer roadmap. In their Client Summit 2026 session, "Product Vision: From Intelligence to Automation," Gayeski and Alex Grace, Chief Commercial Officer, showed how Clockworks plans to take low-value manual work off facilities teams. That includes triaging and suppressing alarms, catching alarms that get ignored, linking each alarm to the diagnosis behind it, and writing changes back to the BAS.

The roadmap also helps teams choose the right mix of reactive, preventive, condition-based, and predictive maintenance. Every automated action will be logged and reversible. The same information model and expert systems behind Sprocket give that automation the context it needs to act.

Sprocket runs on the Clockworks foundation for AI-driven facilities. Clockworks creates a trusted historical record of health for every asset, which powers informed decision-making across every facilities function: maintenance, asset management, building automation, energy and sustainability, risk, compliance, and business management.

Customers can engage Sprocket today to inform decision-making across facilities functions. New to Clockworks? Get a demo to see Sprocket and the platform behind it.
