Citizens Against Government Waste Applauds EPA Affordable Clean Energy Plan
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) applauded the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for proposing the Affordable Clean Energy (ACE) rule. The rule would reverse the Obama administration’s 2015 Clean Power Plan, which was blocked by the Supreme Court in 2016 due to regulatory overreach.
CAGW President Tom Schatz said in a statement:
“The Affordable Clean Energy rule is everything that the Clean Power plan was not: A cost-effective proposal that protects jobs, ensures state’s rights, and decreases carbon emissions. The ACE rule would save $400 million per year and reduce CO2 emissions by 1.5 percent by 2030.
“CAGW opposed former President Obama’s plan because of its massive regulatory overreach and the staggering trillion-dollar cost it would have placed on taxpayers and energy consumers. Under the ACE rule, states will be given the flexibility to regulate emissions and the energy industry will be encouraged to experiment with new technologies that will reduce emissions while maintaining efficiency.
“The ACE rule reverses the toxic notion that environmental protection necessitates economic destruction. Taxpayers should be glad that common sense has returned to America’s energy plans.”
CAGW is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government.
