Christopher Manning Joins BranchLab Scientific Advisory Board
Stanford AI leader brings deep expertise in machine learning and semantic language processing to an interdisciplinary board focused on healthcare commercialization
Manning is the Thomas M. Siebel Professor in Machine Learning and Professor of Linguistics and Computer Science at Stanford University, a co-founder and Senior Fellow of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, and former Director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
Manning's research has helped define modern machine learning, AI, and natural language processing (NLP). He co-created GloVe, a foundational word-embedding model that paved the way for today's large language models, and his broader contributions in NLP have shaped both the research community and the technologies behind modern language understanding.
Healthcare commercialization depends on making sense of complex information. Pharmaceutical organizations have access to vast amounts of health, consumer, and commercial data, but realizing its value requires more than applying AI models. People and intelligent systems need a shared understanding of that information, so they can apply it responsibly and use it to improve decision-making across connected workflows.

Drake brings deep experience applying computational biology, epidemiology, machine learning, and healthcare data science across the pharmaceutical lifecycle. Before joining BranchLab, she led the Computational Biology Data Science organization at Verily, where her teams applied advanced computational methods across biomarker discovery, epidemiology, proteomics, and population health. At BranchLab, she leads the scientific development of Pathwai and the application of AI to healthcare commercialization. She holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science and Pharmacogenomics from the University of California, San Francisco, and an M.S. in Epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley.
"Healthcare commercialization has become one of the most interdisciplinary problems in applied AI," said Drake. Manning received the IEEE John von Neumann Medal in 2024 and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2025.
