The exercise begins by defining the ‘Situation’ that a user would like to process. It can be anything, from as big as processing a major life event like a death or divorce, or it could be used to process something as small as ‘I have been feeling angry lately and I don’t know why.’ From there, the Catharsis Method cards can be laid out via a clear, step-by-step process which guides users through emotional exploration with each card offering more details and questions on a path to self-growth and clarity.

The Catharsis Method was was developed through extensive research into emotional intelligence theories, working with licensed therapists and social workers on applications of psychological practices, and then user testing to ensure its effectiveness and ease of use. It is guided by an approachable philosophy for both newcomers and veterans of emotional intelligence practice.
