In partnership with the National Cemetery Administration, the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance will be observed nationwide on Saturday, Sept. 12 to allow maximum participation from the public. Volunteer activities revolve around beautification efforts at each cemetery, which are largely managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“Carry The Load exists to actively connect people with the sacrifices made by our military, veterans, first responders and their families, and we believe the best way to do that is by being together in the community, practicing gratitude and remembering those who answer the distress call every day,” said Kathie Wood, CEO of Carry The Load. “We invite everyone – families, children, older adults, people of all backgrounds – to join us on Sept. 12 as we take action at the cemeteries where many of our nation’s heroes are resting.”
Registration for the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance is officially open at CarryTheLoad.org. Registration and participation are free. This year marks the eighth year of the initiative for Carry The Load.
The public can also support first responders and their families by posting a tribute to a fallen first responder on Carry The Load’s virtual Tribute Wall or donate in their memory. All donations to Carry The Load support services and programs for military, veterans, first responders and their families, such as counseling and mental health access, suicide prevention, job placement and career coaching, adaptive training, scholarships for children of fallen heroes and more.
Since 2011, Carry The Load has raised $50M with 93% of every dollar going directly to programs that impact those in need.
“At G.E.H.A, we understand that service is more than a profession—it is a calling. For nearly 90 years, we have proudly served federal and postal employees, military retirees and their families, many of whom have dedicated their careers to strengthening and protecting our nation. That is why we are honored to present the National Day of Service and Remembrance, alongside Carry The Load. This initiative transforms remembrance into action, giving Americans the opportunity to honor those lost on Sept. 11 and celebrate the enduring spirit of service embodied by our military, veterans, first responders and public servants across the country,” said David Hakanson, President & CEO of G.E.H.A.
