Carfax to expand Fairfax County headquarters, other Virginia operations

Vehicle information leader to invest total of $15.8 million; create 120 new jobs

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Governor Terry McAuliffe announced today that Carfax®, the leading provider of vehicle history information for buyers, sellers, and owners of pre-owned cars in the United States, will invest $5 million to expand its headquarters in the Centreville community of Fairfax County, creating 120 new jobs.

The company also will invest $10.8 million to upgrade its data center operation in nearby Loudoun County.

Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA). “This is a leading firm in the automotive sector that is taking full advantage of the excellent workforce we have, and I am delighted to see that the company is expanding its data center capabilities in the Commonwealth as well as expanding its headquarters here.”

Carfax provides information that helps people shop, buy, own and sell used cars. Carfax helps consumers, dealers, insurers, law enforcement, and the automotive industry. The company maintains a database comprising more than 15 billion vehicle history records from 92,000 sources worldwide and handles more than 2.7 million requests for vehicle history information every day.

The FCEDA worked with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership to secure the headquarters expansion for Virginia. Governor McAuliffe approved a $150,000 grant from the Commonwealth Opportunity Fund to assist Fairfax County with the project. Funding and services to support the company’s employee training activities will be provided through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.

Time magazine called Fairfax County “one of the great economic success stories of our time.” The FCEDA offers site location and business development assistance, and connections with county and state government agencies, to help companies locate and expand in Fairfax County.
