BayPort Foundation 4th Annual Charity Golf Classic Raises Over $140,000

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., May 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The BayPort Foundation is excited to announce that it has raised $142,734 at its fourth annual Charity Golf Classic event, hosted on May 1, 2025.

Forty-seven businesses sponsored the tournament, including the 96 golfers who played the award-winning golf course at the James River Country Club in Newport News.

The successful fundraising outcome was made possible by the support of sponsors of all levels and Gold Sponsor business partners: Candescent, Haywood Floor Covering, Mastercard, North River Construction, and Velera.

The fundraiser included the second annual wine tasting and dinner hosted at Circa 1918 on April 30, 2025, in Newport News. The event included a Who's Who of Napa Valley wine pairing and five-course dinner.

One hundred percent of the Charity Golf Classic funds go directly to fund grants supporting the BayPort Foundation's mission, including its $100,000 scholarship program and charitable grant awards to address gaps in education and workforce development with the half-million-dollar, three-year, step-down grant called Accelerating Change Together—or the ACT Grant.

The 2024—2026 $500,000 ACT Grant was awarded to the Newport News Education Foundation to support the Newport News Public Schools New Teacher Institute program. The grant will provide the funding necessary to answer the regional call to build a workforce pipeline to expand its new first —and second-year teacher programs.

As the philanthropic arm of BayPort Credit Union, the Foundation is an extension of the credit union's charitable giving.
