Baron & Budd Investigates Potential Lawsuits Regarding Defectives Airbag Control Units
Firm is Investigating Claims of Airbag Component Not Working Properly and Causing Major Injuries Including Deaths
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, the national law firm of Baron & Budd announced an investigation of airbag component supplier, ZF-TRW, and vehicle manufacturers Hyundai, Kia, Honda, Mitsubishi, Toyota, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles concerning defects in the Airbag Control Unit (ACU) that could result in air bags failing to deploy in an accident. NHTSA has announced an investigation of these companies and media reports indicate, “four deaths that may have been caused by the problem were reported in Hyundai-Kia vehicles and three in Fiat Chrysler automobiles” but “the problem could be responsible for as many as eight deaths.”
Owners of vehicles equipped with this ACU, which senses a crash signal and deploys the airbags and seat belt pretensioner during an accident, could be at risk. There are approximately 12.3 million ACU parts installed in vehicles manufactured from 2010 to 2019.
Baron & Budd has a dedicated history of protecting the rights of people in the arena of auto safety. The law firm filed the first Takata Airbag Lawsuit, which resulted in a class action settlement of approximately $1.5 billion. It has also represented vehicle owners in the General Motors faulty ignition recall litigation and in litigation surrounding defects with VW, Nissan, BMW and Ford vehicles.
