American Brain Tumor Association Announces New Board Chair and Officers
Brain tumor survivor Brian Olson elected as chair of the American Brain Tumor Association Board of Directors
CHICAGO, Sept. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA) announced today that Brian Olson, CFP® will begin his third term on the Board of Directors as board chair. He replaces Jeff Fougerousse of Elmhurst, Illinois, who will remain on the board as immediate past chair.

Olson, a 30-year brain tumor survivor, was diagnosed with a pilocytic astrocytoma when he was just 12-years-old. The tumor was initially discovered during an eye exam and then confirmed by a neurologist.
"My family and I were in the dark when I received my diagnosis. We were not aware of the ABTA," Olson said. "Being part of this board gives me a great opportunity to pay it forward. It is wonderful to be able to introduce people to the ABTA and the important resources we provide to the research community, individuals and their families."
Olson has been a member of the ABTA board since 2011. He served as treasurer for his first term (2012-2015) and, most recently, as vice chair during his second term (2015-2017).
Olson is a Certified Financial Planner for Edward Jones and resides in Arlington Heights, Ill. with his wife and two children.
In addition to Mr. Olson, the new leadership of the board of directors, voted on at the ABTA's annual meeting of the Board of Directors on Aug. 4, are: Jim Reilly, of Chicago, who is moving from secretary to vice chair; Craig Stokely, of Wayne, Ill., who is the newly appointed secretary; and Carla Varner, of Chicago, who remains treasurer. All three have started their second term on the board.
Other board members elected for second terms include Susannah Davis, of Austin, Texas, and Alison Miller, MHA, of Chicago. To see all current board members, please visit www.abta.org/about-us/board-of-directors.
