A.M. BestTV: Reinsurers Look to New Risks, Regulations for Growth
OLDWICK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- This A.M.BestTV episode examines a recent CPCU Society seminar on reinsurance where speakers and attendees said the emergence of the sharing economy and opportunities to take on public risk are opening new doors for insurers and reinsurers. Meanwhile, new regulatory requirements are raising the stakes for insurers. Click on http://www.ambest.com/v.asp?v=cpcu316 to view the entire program.
The seminar, which took place at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, was attended by brokers, representatives from rating agencies, insurance and reinsurance companies, as well as a large number of the university’s students.
John Welch, chief executive, North America, XL Catlin, focused on the state of the reinsurance industry. “Right now on the reinsurance side the biggest challenge is finding ways to grow. The industry has more and more clients that are keeping the business and not buying as much reinsurance as they’ve had in the past … the challenge is really around innovation and trying to find solutions and being able to sell new concepts to our ceding companies,” said Welch.
Susan Molineux, senior financial analyst, A.M. Best, addressed the issue of regulation, which can be a challenge and an opportunity. “The regulatory requirements are increasing and with that increase you need people and systems that are capable of handling the increased demands,” said Molineux.
