A.M. BestTV: Regulation, Capital and Technology Changes Shape 2016 Insurance Landscape

December 18, 2015 11:06 AM EST

OLDWICK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In this A.M.BestTV episode, A.M. Best Chief Rating Officer Stefan Holzberger and other property/casualty insurance leaders from around the world discuss changing market dynamics, regulatory concerns, interest rates, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and cyber risks, which will help shape insurance markets in 2016. “There are a lot of disruptors or potential disruptors facing the industry, which can be either a potential challenge or a potential opportunity for the insurance market in the years to come,” said Holzberger. “These disruptors would include: changing product demands, changing buying habits, changing the current state of distribution–bigger is better– a lot of M&A on the broker side and very different forms of capital, since capital structures are changing dramatically.”

“There have been some changes in frequency and severity over the last several years, as frequency has been relatively negative in some lines of business, especially automobile,” said Carole Ferrero, president and chief underwriting officer, property/casualty, General Reinsurance Corporation. “Also, how is cyber exposure going to evolve over the next year, what are many insurance and reinsurance companies going to do with cyber and how is that going to become a part of the whole problem of terrorism. Additionally, I believe that companies are going to have to start embracing leveraging data more in order to make better decisions.”
