3M Settles Patent Infringement Action with Tovis and Scientific Games

ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- 3M and 3M Innovative Properties Co. have settled a patent infringement lawsuit brought by 3M in federal district court in Las Vegas, Nev., against South Korea-based Tovis Co. Ltd. and its subsidiary Tovis North America, and Scientific Games Corp. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

The suit alleged that certain Tovis touch display products which are used by Scientific Games in its gaming machines infringed 3M’s U.S. Patents 8,179,381; 9,823,786; 8,274,494; 8,704,799; 10,078,408; 10,101,868; 10,114,516; and 10,126,901.

Metal mesh conductor technology is widely used in the construction of projected capacitive touch sensors for consumer and commercial applications. Metal mesh conductors have broad applicability across touch sensors of all sizes. In particular, large format touch sensors are often used in interactive whiteboards, conferencing systems, and digital signage displays.

Earlier this year, 3M settled a similar patent infringement lawsuit against Elo Touch Solutions Inc.
