Rand Paul's Tweet Causes Market Gyrations
(Updated - December 12, 2017 12:49 PM EST)
A tweet by Kentucky senator Rand Paul caused gyrations in stocks, currencies and to other markets Tuesday afternoon.
In a video, Paul said , "It's the end of the year and as usual congress prepares to kick the can down the road by spending money we don't have. The deficit this year alone will exceed $700 million dollars and the end of the year spending bill will continue to spend money like there's no tomorrow. So whose fault is it? Democrats? Republicans? Really both parties are to blame. Both parties want to increase spending, but for different reasons. Ultimately, though, Democrats and Republicans, come together, they compromise, and all spending increases. I can not in good conscious vote to add more to the already massive $20 trillion debt. I promised Kentucky to vote against reckless deficit spending and I will do just that. Count me as no on any budget busting spending bill."
The video refers to the budget measure, not the tax bill.
