Carolyn Schorer, affectionately known as "Lonnie," is marking over four decades of groundbreaking work at the intersection of architecture and aviation. With a career defined by passion, exploration, and education, Schorer continues to inspire future generations through her unwavering commitment to both the built environment and the skies above.

Schorer's fascination with aviation began in childhood, watching aircrafts take off and land with her father at Bradley Field in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. That early spark led her to become a licensed single-engine and floatplane pilot, eventually joining The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR). As a member of the TIGHAR team, Schorer participated in five expeditions to Nikumaroro, a remote Pacific Island linked to the Amelia Earhart mystery—serving as researcher, archaeologist, kite aerial photographer, and assistant drone operator.

As a Civil Air Patrol First Lieutenant in New Hampshire's Lakes Region, she serves as New Hampshire Wing historian and emergency services aircrew, with certifications as a scanner, mission observer, and airborne photographer. Her aviation journey also includes time as pit crew for the prestigious Reno Air Races.

Schorer's parallel career in architecture has been equally remarkable. With a Master of Architecture from Virginia Tech and a B.A. in Russian Studies from Connecticut College, she has held leadership roles in innovative design and construction projects worldwide. Notably, she served as Senior Vice President of Design & Construction for The World of ResidenSea, with 165 private homes aboard.
With patriotism as a driving force, 20 years overseas with the U.S. Diplomatic and Government Service in Thailand, the former Soviet Union, Turkey, Italy and Norway included playing a pivotal role in reopening the U.S. Consulate in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). Serving the nation and community as a DAR member, Schorer was recently awarded the prestigious Women in American History medal.

Her contributions to maritime and aviation heritage are expansive, having worked with NOAA's Maritime Heritage Program and the Air Sea Heritage Foundation on projects involving the USS Lexington (CV-2), USS Macon (ZRS-5), USS Stewart (DD-224) and the Samoan Clipper S-42 flying boat. She served as Director of the World Heritage Initiatives Taskforce and currently serves on The Explorers Club Chesapeake Bay Hope Spot team, establishing the ecologically unique Bay as one of the world's newest Hope Spots.

A passionate advocate for education, Schorer has created numerous opportunities for inquisitive learners, from leading aerospace workshops, to serving as a Scout leader, to establishing a grad school program in a World Heritage Site in Norway. Her acclaimed Kids to Space series, which earned the National Science Teachers Association Recommends Award, has opened young minds to the possibilities of space exploration. Schorer's affiliations have included leadership and committee roles within The Explorers Club, as staff for the Lillehammer and Atlanta Olympics and Paralympics, and with service on the Connecticut College Alumni Board of Directors. She is also the imaginative force behind her family's beloved and famously challenging "Rock Rally."
