TOURISM COUNCIL PRESENTS ANNUAL AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., March 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Middle East Tennessee Tourism Council (METTC), branded as the 9 Lakes of East Tennessee, presented its annual Excellence in Tourism awards at the recent East Tennessee Legislative Luncheon. The event was attended by state and local elected officials as well as tourism professionals from the 16-county region.

During the luncheon, Anne Ross, Director of Tourism at the Morristown Chamber of Commerce, and Sara Beth Urban, Chief Executive Officer of the Tennessee Hospitality and Tourism Association (TNTHA), shared the keynote address and presented the prestigious awards.

The Excellence in Tourism awards honor individuals, events, festivals, and marketing initiatives that have significantly enhanced and increased tourism's positive economic impact across the 16 counties within the METTC region.

Organization Award Winners:

• Best Marketing & Public Relations (small budget): Monroe County Tourism – Cherohala Skyway Wildflower Tour
• Best Marketing & Public Relations (large budget): Visit Knoxville – United States Diving Trials
• Best Festival/Event: Cocke County Partnership – ARA Overmountain Rally

Chuck Davis Leadership Awards:

The Chuck Davis Leadership Award, named in honor of the late Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce tourism director and champion of the East Tennessee Crossing Scenic Byway, recognizes outstanding contributions from individuals and businesses in the tourism sector.

Partner of the Year Awards:

• Top Golf
• Tennessee Department of Transportation – Beautification

Both received the Partner of the Year award for their dedication and collaboration on projects that benefit the region.

Tourism Leader of the Year:

Lauren Hurdle, Director of Tourism for Jefferson County and Chairman of the METTC Board, was honored with the Tourism Leader of the Year award. Her leadership and tireless work serving the 16-county region, as well as her contributions to Tennessee Hospitality and Tourism, earned her this distinction.

Transformational Projects Recognition:

The program also spotlighted five transformational projects that are positively impacting the cities of Sweetwater, Knoxville, Dandridge, Rockwood, and Andersonville. These projects are shaping the future of tourism in East Tennessee and showcasing the growth and potential of the region.
