Cannabis Workers Demand Equal Pay and Respect as Company Profits Soar

YORK, Pa., Sept. 11, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Workers at Local 776 in York, Pa., are on an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) strike against RISE Dispensary, a subsidiary of Green Thumb Industries (GTI), for bargaining in bad faith.

The strike comes after members unanimously rejected the company's last, best, and final offer. Workers are demanding fair wages, dignity, and respect on the job.

"Our members are sending a clear message: this strike will not end until GTI bargains in good faith and delivers the contract these workers deserve," said Jesse Case, Director of the Teamsters Food Processing Division. "RISE workers see firsthand the billions in revenue this company makes, yet they're expected to settle for less than their peers at other locations. We're not letting that happen."

RISE employees in York are demanding wages equal to what workers at other RISE dispensaries earn. Meanwhile, GTI took in over a billion dollars in revenue last year and has the second-largest market cap among all publicly traded cannabis companies in the world.

"This strike isn't just about us — it's about showing that even a handful of dedicated workers can push back against a giant corporation when they're not being treated fairly," said John Stambaugh, a Local 776 member at RISE Dispensary. "We're fighting for a contract that reflects our value and ensures we aren't just disposable parts of their billion-dollar machine."

The strike at RISE Dispensary in York is the second by GTI Teamsters in less than three years. It reflects a larger pattern seen in the cannabis industry, where corporations rake in record profits while frontline workers are left behind — but Teamsters across the country are fighting back, ensuring the people who make this industry run get a share in its prosperity.
