PSS Purchases Manhattan Headquarters Space

Move Accommodates Current and Future Growth; Allows Expanded Services to City's Older Adults, Caregivers and Their Families

NEW YORK, Feb. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- PSS, the 63-year-old multi-service nonprofit agency here, announced today it has purchased headquarters office space in midtown Manhattan, marking a move from its legacy administrative offices in Rutgers Presbyterian Church to a permanent location.  

The 4,000-square-foot space occupies the third floor of 147 East 48^th Street and will provide a central hub where staff and volunteers—who operate at sites and in the field throughout the five boroughs--can work and meet for in-person programming, training and development. The space's central location will also be ideal for PSS's Life! University older adult education program to offer in-person classes equipping people to deal with life's transitions. The agency expects to move into the space in April.

"In the years before COVID, PSS had been growing its programming to include new offerings such as Circle of Care for caregivers and took over the operation of multiple older adult centers. During COVID, the agency expanded even further, providing vital online information through its PSS Life! University and digital capacity building efforts. As COVID subsided, case management services directed at homebound older adults expanded in the Bronx, and a NY Connects contract brought additional services to all of Brooklyn. Our new location gives us the space and flexibility to address community needs on a deeper level as we continue to be an innovative leader in New York City's aging services community."

Today, PSS operates ten Older Adult Centers in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan, a commercial kitchen in Throggs Neck, and two Senior Residences, in Queens and the Bronx. Its Case Management group works from an office in Co-op City, while its NY Connects Brooklyn program serves that borough from an office in Flatbush.

Founded in 1962 by volunteers from the New York Presbytery as Presbyterian Senior Services to address the needs of their aging church members, PSS was headquartered in space donated by Rutgers Presbyterian Church. Today, it is an independent, non-sectarian, non-denominational 501(c)( 3) organization that serves nearly 2,000 individuals daily throughout all five boroughs and, in 2024, reached close to 25,000 through its e-newsletters, outreach events, and community education programs. Its $13 million budget is funded by NYC Department for the Aging, NYS Department of Health, and various funders, which have included the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, The Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation, and the Consumer Technology Association Foundation,  community-based organizations and private donors.
