MADD Congratulates Jonathan Morrison on Confirmation as NHTSA Administrator

IRVING, Texas, Sept. 23, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Mothers Against Drunk Driving^® (MADD) congratulates Jonathan Morrison on his confirmation as Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). His appointment comes at a pivotal time, as alcohol-impaired driving deaths surged past 12,000 in 2023.

Morrison's confirmation fills a gap in consistent leadership at the helm of NHTSA, the federal agency tasked with advancing vehicle safety standards, including the implementation of the HALT Drunk Driving Law — a historic law passed in 2021 that requires the U.S. Department of Transportation to issue a rule mandating advanced impaired driving prevention technology in all new vehicles. Once fully implemented, it is expected to save more than 10,000 lives every year and prevent hundreds of thousands of injuries, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
