Kong Konnect Service Catalog Now Supports AWS Auto Discovery
Kong Konnect unifies API discovery across AWS and other gateways, enabling secure, agent-ready access at scale
This latest update to Konnect Service Catalog was introduced today at API Summit 2025. Konnect Service Catalog represents a huge step forward towards solving one of the most persistent challenges in large-scale API lifecycle management: API sprawl and lack of visibility across fragmented infrastructure. Fragmented API deployments across cloud providers and teams often result in isolated silos, complicating discovery, governance and secure access. This can hinder innovation and introduce risks. For platform and security teams, it creates a blind spot that makes it difficult to enforce consistent, enterprise-wide governance. For developers, it creates friction in discovering and using the APIs they need to build, automate and innovate.
"Sprawl has proven to be a persistent challenge for developers, and multi-gateway infrastructures compound the problem. As enterprises prepare for a future where agents will consume most APIs, having a unified source of truth becomes mission critical," said
Solving API Sprawl for Human and Non-Human Consumers
Many large enterprises run multiple API gateways across business units, geographies and cloud environments. AWS API Gateway is one of the most popular, chosen for its ease of use in native AWS workloads. But this fractured deployment landscape can lead to poor visibility and inconsistent controls across the enterprise.
With this new integration, Kong Konnect automatically discovers and ingests REST APIs deployed in AWS API Gateway, bringing them into a unified service catalog alongside Kong-managed and other third-party APIs. Once ingested, these APIs appear in the same catalog view as APIs managed natively by Kong Gateway. This unified catalog is essential for both human developers and M2M clients such as LLMs and AI agents, which require programmatic access to APIs for automation, inference, orchestration and more.
With a single location in Konnect Service Catalog to discover APIs across all gateways, organizations can:
- Reduce duplication and complexity across teams
- Feed internal agents and AI workloads with complete API inventory
- Establish consistent access policies regardless of API origin
Enforcing Governance with Scorecards
In addition to improving visibility, the AWS integration enhances governance by extending Service Catalog Scorecards to APIs discovered in AWS. Platform and security teams can now define custom compliance criteria such as authentication status, ownership metadata, monitoring coverage and more, and automatically measure every API against those standards.
If an API is missing critical controls or documentation, Konnect Service Catalog scorecards provide remediation guidance directly within the UI, enabling faster resolution and improved overall API hygiene. This gives enterprises a powerful toolset to operationalize API governance at scale — even across third-party gateways.
