Intrax Foundation Establishes Partnership with Northwestern University's Global Learning Office

The Intrax Foundation Yokota and Wilhelm Scholars Global Horizons Trek Fund is committed to cultural exchange and global impact.

SAN FRANCISCO, May 27, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Intrax today announced it will partner with Northwestern University's Global Learning Office (GLO) to establish the Intrax Foundation Yokota and Wilhelm Scholars Global Horizons Fund. The fund, named for Intrax's co-founders, will create Northwestern's Global Horizons Program, providing a gateway learning opportunity for first-generation college students with high levels of demonstrated financial need and no prior international travel experience.

"The Global Horizons Program will allow first-year college students to develop international travel literacy skills while experiencing a sampling of what study abroad during their college careers can offer. It is a valuable addition to GLO's portfolio of over 150 study abroad programs across 50 countries and an important support for our efforts to reduce barriers to study abroad for all undergraduates."

The Global Horizons Program comprises short-term, non-credit bearing, nine-day study treks that take place during spring break. The treks provide an opportunity for first-year students to build close connections with faculty, advisers and peers while immersing themselves in another country and academic topic aligned with the faculty leader's expertise.

The spring 2026 inaugural cohort will focus on Where Cultures Meet: Exploring Modern Taiwan under the direction of Wen-pin Hsieh, an assistant professor in Northwestern's Department of Asian Languages and Cultures. Further treks will follow in 2027 and 2028.

Studying abroad brings about positive changes in self-awareness, independence, career prospects, and decision-making. Currently, approximately half of Northwestern undergraduate students study abroad, and this new hands-on, experiential learning opportunity will help expand study abroad awareness and access to students.
