Innovative Medication Pilot Wins HDA Distribution Management Award

NASHVILLE, Tenn., March 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- In 2023, Dispensary of Hope, Viatris, and Cencora launched a groundbreaking initiative to identify unused, short-dated medications at distribution centers that could be donated rather than discarded—expanding access to critical medicines for low-income and uninsured individuals across the United States. This first-of-its-kind program extends beyond traditional manufacturer in-house donation efforts, creating a new pathway to provide essential medications to underserved patients.

Through the Manufacturer Channel Inventory Donation Model, this initiative has the potential to repurpose more than 25% of returned packages that would otherwise be destroyed, ensuring they reach those in need. By the end of 2024, a total of 307 products had been identified and redirected—an achievement that highlights the program's immense value and long-term potential.
