First Issue of New HFSA Journal of Cardiac Failure-Intersections
The first issue of the Journal of Cardiac Failure-Intersections, an open-access journal focused on heart failure and its many intersections, is now available.
In a landscape saturated with biomedical publications—and at a time when the relevance of traditional journals is being reexamined—we believe that a journal driven by innovation, transformation, and interdisciplinary collaboration can not only thrive but inspire a new generation of scientific dialogue. What sets our journal apart is a commitment to breaking traditional boundaries—fostering meaningful intersections across disciplines and bringing together diverse voices in medicine. The Journal of Cardiac Failure–Intersections embodies this vision, focusing on heart failure and its critical connections across the broader cardiovascular community.
"Historically some of the most powerful innovations have occurred at the intersections of life, and I anticipate the Journal of Cardiac Failure-Intersections will fully embrace this concept – whether it be at the intersection of heart failure with other subspecialties, health policy, the environment, ethics, entrepreneurship, the humanities, well-being, or something entirely unexpected," noted Editor-in-Chief
Guided by Jazon N, Katz, MD, MHS, Editor-in-Chief,
The lead paper is a post-hoc analysis of the Role of Rhythm Control with Antiarrhythmic Agents in Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction: Insights from the AFFIRM Trial. This article evaluates how controlling heart rhythm with certain medications may increase the risk of mortality among HFpEF patients who were randomized to rhythm control rather than rate control using drug therapy.
Also highlighted in the issue is a Patient Perspectives on Genetic Testing in Transthyretin Amyloid Cardiomyopathy, which found 4 common themes that will help inform implementation strategies around cardiomyopathy-related genetic testing. While a Research Letter, Perceptions of Gender Diversity and Discrimination Against Physicians in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, explores the representation of women and racially/ethnically diverse groups in cardiology.
"On behalf of the Heart Failure Society Board of Directors, we are excited to share with our heart failure community the inaugural issue of the Journal of Cardiac Failure-Intersections. Rarely do we see heart failure in isolation, and with this new offering from the JCF Family of Journals, we can better illustrate all the ways heart failure intersects with the larger medical community. We hope you find this first historic issue of interest and look forward to many more years of intersections with our community," said
JCF-Intersections serves as a platform for discussion, connection, and education. The journal focuses on strengthening research at the intersection of heart failure and other fields, including ethics, technology & entrepreneurship, oncology, prevention, humanities, policy & law, obstetrics, critical care, and more, to cultivate uncommon partnerships, novel viewpoints, and agile teams that influence the care of our patients, families, and communities.
