This one-of-a-kind, "square cap" bottle in shiny hammered glass was created in the 1970s by a master glassmaker from Murano who created the iconic bottle shape. The legend of Disaronno began in one of the most creative periods in Italian history, the Renaissance. In 1525, artist Bernardino Luini, a pupil of Leonardo da Vinci, was commissioned to embellish the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Miracles in Saronno. As a model to depict the Madonna in one of his four main paintings, "The Adoration of the Magi", he chose a beautiful local innkeeper. As a mark of her gratitude, she prepared for the artist a special gift of a flask full of fragrant, delicate, amber-colored liqueur. This is how the legend of Disaronno was born, from a simple gesture of kindness and a special mix of secret ingredients. Moving ahead to the 1600s, the Reina family rediscovered the ancient recipe, which was then passed through generations to the early 1900s, when the family opened a workshop in the heart of Saronno.
