CPSC Names Colette Devine Chief Enforcement Officer

WASHINGTON, Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission today announced that Colette Devine will serve as the agency's Chief Enforcement Officer. Devine will be the first to hold this title, which replaces Director of Compliance and reflects CPSC's increased emphasis on enforcement.

Devine joins CPSC following a period of historic enforcement activity. In 2025, CPSC announced 542 recalls and product safety warnings, the highest annual total in the agency's history, and significantly increased enforcement against dangerous products sold through online marketplaces.

CPSC has also strengthened its partnerships with the Department of Justice and other federal law enforcement agencies, helping the agency bring significant civil and criminal enforcement actions against companies and individuals that violate federal laws. Those partnerships have contributed to major civil penalty resolutions, the first criminal sentences arising from a CPSC prosecution, and the agency's first lawsuit in nearly four decades seeking relief under Section 12 of the Consumer Product Safety Act.

Devine brings more than 20 years of experience in compliance, investigations, risk management, and regulatory governance across multinational operations spanning 28 countries. Most recently, she served as Assistant General Counsel and Deputy Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at AES Corporation, where she advised executive leadership on regulatory and compliance risk and led an international team responsible for third-party risk, investigations, and compliance program implementation.

As Chief Enforcement Officer, Devine will lead CPSC's Office of Compliance and Field Operations and oversee the agency's continued efforts to enforce federal product safety laws and protect American consumers.
