MATTHEWS, N.C., June 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- CEM Corporation is proud to announce the release of the new Prodigy 2.0, a preparative HPLC system designed for the purification of synthetic peptides.

The Prodigy 2.0 represents a major advancement towards greener peptide purification by providing significantly improved recoveries while also enabling the complete replacement of acetonitrile with ethanol. This is made possible by accessing elevated temperatures using a newly developed, high-efficiency heating system that optimally heats both the column and mobile phase, overcoming the increased backpressure associated with higher-viscosity ethanol. 

Operation at elevated temperatures enhances both peak shape and peptide solubility, which results in significantly improved recoveries – up to 50% higher when operating at 60 °C – compared to traditional room temperature approaches.

New research demonstrating the benefits of the Prodigy 2.0 system, titled "Greening Peptide Purification Through Replacement of Acetonitrile with Ethanol," will be presented at the upcoming 29th American Peptide Symposium in San Diego, CA.

The Prodigy 2.0 comes standard with additional capabilities including a 5-position autosampler, high-capacity fraction collector, and an advanced focused gradient calculator. Additionally, it features a unique automated sample injection system that allows virtually unlimited volumes to be injected—ideal for purifying low-solubility peptides.
