NEW YORK, Sept. 23, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Ploughshares, a nuclear weapns threat reduction nonprofit and grantmaker – in partnership with Horizon 2045, a nonprofit that advances security for a more humane and resilient future through women's leadership, philanthropy, and innovations in internaitonal law and governance, and The Elders, the group of independent global leaders founded by Nelson Mandela – launched its new groundbreaking initiative, Women Transforming Global Security (WTGS).

WTGS is an international network of stateswomen, global policy experts, nonprofit executives, and leaders across sectors—from climate and technology to health, human rights, and nuclear security—dedicated to reducing the threats that endanger our collective future.

The initiative was announced at the International Peace Institute on the eve of the UN General Assembly 2025, featuring high-profile WTGS champions such as former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former President of Ireland and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson, former Prime Minister of New Zealand Helen Clark, former President of the UN General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garcés and TEDWomen Editorial Director and Curator and Host Pat Mitchell.
