BetterAge Secures $5.5M in NIH Grants to Transform Healthy Aging

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- BetterAge, digital health platform empowering older adults to achieve healthy aging, today announced it has received a $3 million Fast-Track Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institute on Aging (NIA), an agency of the NIH. This follows the company's $2.5 million Fast-Track Phase I/II SBIR award, bringing total NIH investment to $5.5 million - a strong endorsement of the company's innovative approach to improving health and well-being for older adults, including those supporting individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (PLWAD).

Two Grants, One Mission: Healthier Aging for All

The first NIH award supported development of BetterAge's web-based platform, helping older adults assess their well-being and act on personalized recommendations to promote healthier aging. Phase I successfully demonstrated feasibility. Phase II will build out the platform and test it with a larger population. The newly awarded $3M Fast-Track Phase I/II grant will extend the platform by developing a dynamic companion app for older adults supporting loved ones with PLWAD. The app provides ongoing guidance, helping users stay informed, motivated, and empowered to maintain their own well-being while supporting others. "BetterAge's vision bridges evidence-based research with practical, everyday use," said Silvia Orsulic-Jeras, lead researcher on the grant from the Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging, adding, "This work will contribute to the cutting-edge science and technology to help care partners better care for themselves and their loved ones."

Strategic Partnership Accelerates National Impact

BetterAge is already partnering with more than 40 community-based organizations, gathering on-the-ground feedback to refine the platform. Building on this, the company has launched a national partnership with USAging, the association representing Area Agencies on Aging and Title VI Native American Aging Programs. This collaboration extends BetterAge's reach nationwide, amplifying its ability to scale proven innovations and deliver measurable improvements in older adult well-being.
