Beacon's FLEX Platform Successfully Tested for US Navy Unmanned Systems
FLEX enables edge-based holistic vehicle assessment, configuration, parts management, maintenance, and logistics support as well as real-time logging and reporting. Currently under contract to support Navy UUVs, FLEX streamlines operations, drastically shortening repair timelines and increasing equipment availability. FLEX enables repair and maintenance to be performed expeditiously by vehicle operators in the field. Previously unattainable insight into parts failure rates as well as near real-time visibility into availability and reliability of unmanned assets provided by FLEX is an important outcome for the Navy.
Accessible in distributed environments via a standalone edge device, FLEX addresses contested logistics realities around asset readiness and operational availability. FLEX positively impacts the workload on operators by, among other things, tying together technical drawings and procedures with digitized maintenance and mission data for each unmanned vehicle.
Successful delivery of digital capabilities requires multiple cycles of end-user training and feedback. This recent training event took place at the Naval Special Warfare PMS 340 Expeditionary Support Facility operated by ProteQ. The training was led by an integrated team of both Beacon and ProteQ personnel. A positive initial response from end users highlighted the intuitive and detailed nature of the system.
"FLEX provides a positive step towards both capturing the availability and condition of UUV assets fleet wide and collecting the maintenance data that will generate a predictive maintenance capability," said
Additional training events are slated for later this year. These events are milestones on the path for FLEX becoming the platform of choice for in-field sustainment of unmanned systems.
