ACCM Launches Legislative Medical Cannabis Toolkit and National Policymaker Support Program
New initiative gives policymakers trusted information, expert guidance and direct access to medical cannabis specialists.
Developed for legislators, congressional staff, government agencies and regulatory officials, the toolkit addresses patient access, physician participation, whole-plant and whole-flower protections, insurance integration, industry standards, technology connectivity, scientific research, small-business protections and the continued role of state medical cannabis programs.
It also examines critical issues facing policymakers as medical cannabis becomes more integrated with mainstream healthcare, including continuity of care, physician education, insurance reimbursement, patient privacy, research access and the potential effects of changes to federal cannabis scheduling.
"Medical cannabis policy is entering one of the most important periods in its history, and legislators need reliable information from people who understand patient care and the operational realities of the industry," said
In conjunction with the toolkit, ACCM is making its Legislative Response Team available to legislative offices and government agencies. The team can provide policy briefings, proposed-bill reviews, committee preparation, background materials, stakeholder roundtables, technical assistance and qualified experts who can provide testimony or answer policy questions.
"Responsible policy must begin with patients and preserve access to the medicines and delivery methods upon which they currently depend," said
ACCM can assemble specialized response teams based on the needs of an individual office, committee or agency. Participants may include healthcare professionals, patient advocates, researchers, insurance experts, compliance specialists, technology providers, legal and regulatory professionals, dispensary operators and representatives of medical cannabis businesses of every size.
"The toolkit explains how the Next Frontier Platform provides connectivity among patients, dispensaries and the insurance industry," said
A central focus of the initiative is ensuring that future reforms advance research and innovation without eliminating whole-plant or whole-flower options, disrupting state medical programs or creating compliance structures that exclude smaller organizations. ACCM also supports policies that allow qualified healthcare professionals to discuss medical cannabis openly and responsibly with patients.
"As medical cannabis becomes more integrated with mainstream medicine, consistent standards will be essential to protecting patients and building public confidence," said
Legislative offices may contact ACCM to request the toolkit, schedule a briefing, obtain expert testimony, organize a stakeholder discussion or receive assistance reviewing legislation and regulatory proposals.
