Jefferies initiates coverage on The Medicines Company (NASDAQ: MDCO) with a Hold. PT $21.00.

The firm comments, "The Medicines Company shares have been closely tied to prospects of Angiomax sales and generic competitor landscape. We expect 2012 will be a crucial year as MDCO starts to litigate its patent challenges, and possibly could be incentivized to settle one or more lawsuits. MDCO's pipeline is also developing with several late-stage assets, in particular, we believe MDCO-2010 starting a Ph IIb trial in 2012 may have significant potential."
