Jefferies initiates coverage on Pearson PLC (NYSE: PSO) with a Hold.
The firm comments, "PSON scores the least on our 'resilience' index, with three low scores: moving to a service model, working capital efficiency and shareholder value creation. Progress is being made on all three metrics, but PSON lags MHP and REL.
More subjectively, it seems difficult to think of the FT Group and Penguin as mutually supportive assets in the portfolio, and newspaper and consumer publishing look far from immune in terms of evolving digital pressures. Also, CEO Marjorie Scardino appears to be nearing the end of her tenure and succession risk is emerging."
