Icahn Comments Bruise Stocks

November 18, 2013 3:26 PM EST
Stocks skidded lower mid-day Monday following negative comments on the equity market as a whole from noted hedge fund titan Carl Icahn.

Speaking at the Reuters Summit, Icahn said he was "very cautious" on stocks and said the market could have a big drop. He said corporate earnings are a 'mirage' propped up by low interest rates.

It should be noted that Icahn has made similar comments in the recent past.

Icahn also discussed Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), saying he doesn't want a fight with the company but has no plans to walk away.

After trading over 16,000 earlier today, the Dow dipped sharply lower on Icahn comments - last trading up 10 to 15,971. The S&P 500, which was flat ahead of the Icahn comments is now down 7 points to 1,790. The broader index was over 1,800 earlier in the session.
