Tesla Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA) shares are lower on the session heading into the automakers Q1 results, which are expected out after markets closed.
Bloomberg reported earlier that CEO Elon Musk said the company was considering adding driver-less technology to its vehicles and may look to Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) for a potential partnership. He said, "I like the word autopilot more than I like the word self-driving. Self-driving sounds like it’s going to do something you don’t want it to do. Autopilot is a good thing to have in planes, and we should have it in cars."
Not to build too much excitement, Musk took to his official Twitter account, commenting "Creating an autopilot for cars at Tesla is an important, but not yet top priority. Still a few years from production....Tesla priority is electrification of cars, so priority is Model S, Model X, then mass market third gen vehicle & truck...Am a fan of Larry, Sergey & Google in general, but self-driving cars comments to Bloomberg were just off-the-cuff. No big announcement here."
Shares are down 5.3 percent, but off of session lows Tuesday.
