WM (NYSE: WM) announced that CEO Jim Fish plans to retire and resign from its Board of Directors, with John Morris, the company's current president, appointed as his successor effective Jan. 4, 2027.

Morris, who will also join the Board of Directors upon taking the role, has held several positions at WM over his career, including Chief Operating Officer, Chief Strategy Officer, Senior Vice President of Field Operations, and Market Area General Manager of New York City. He is a graduate of Rutgers University.

Fish has served as CEO since 2016 and has been with the company for more than 25 years. The Board described the transition as part of WM's succession planning process.

Kathleen Mazzarella, Chair of WM's Board of Directors, attributed Morris's selection to his operational track record. "He's overseen innovative service delivery to enhance customer experience while reducing operating expenses," Mazzarella said.

Morris said in a statement that he is "committed to building on that legacy while strengthening our position for innovation and continued long-term growth."

WM, based in Houston, Texas, provides waste collection, recycling, and disposal services to residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal customers across the U.S. and Canada.
