TELA Bio, Inc. (NASDAQ: TELA) announced that Roberto Cuca, its Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer, stepped down effective Aug. 31, 2026, alongside a cost reduction initiative targeting $17.0 million in annual operating expense savings.
The Malvern, Pa.-based medical technology company said the savings will be driven by a headcount reduction of approximately 20% and the streamlining of external resources. The company said it expects the initiative to extend its cash runway into 2028.
TELA Bio anticipates a one-time restructuring charge of approximately $1.5 million in the third quarter of 2026, primarily related to severance and other employee-related costs. The company plans to provide additional details during its third quarter 2026 earnings call, scheduled for early November.
Chief Executive Officer Heather Getz credited Cuca, who served the company for five years, with helping scale operations. No successor was named in the announcement.
The company said the cost reduction represents approximately 18% of its annual operating expenses, based on a review of its business and corporate infrastructure conducted over the prior month.
