Synchrony names former Citi executive as chief AI officer

Synchrony (NYSE: SYF) appointed Nimrod Barak as Chief AI Officer, effective June 30, 2026, according to a company press release. Barak will oversee the company's enterprise-wide AI strategy, governance, and execution.
Barak previously served as Managing Director and Head of AI Center of Excellence and Emerging Technologies at Citi. He has more than 20 years of experience leading engineering, data, and AI organizations.
In his new role, Barak will manage the development and deployment of AI capabilities across Synchrony's business, including agentic and intelligent automation initiatives.
Florin Arghirescu, Synchrony's EVP and Chief Technology Officer, said in the statement: "Over the past several years, Synchrony has been thoughtfully rolling out new AI capabilities across the organization and preparing for the next phase of agentic commerce."
Synchrony said nearly 100% of its professional workforce has been using AI tools, including an internal tool called Synchrony GPT, since 2024. The company also said 90% of its employees trust Synchrony to use AI fairly, ethically, and responsibly.
