Sun Communities names Robert Garechana as new CFO

Sun Communities, Inc. (NYSE: SUI), a real estate investment trust that owns and operates manufactured housing and recreational vehicle communities, announced that Robert A. Garechana will join the company as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective September 8, 2026.
Garechana succeeds Fernando Castro-Caratini, who will move into an advisory role with the company.
Garechana joins from multifamily REIT Equity Residential (NYSE: EQR), where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer since 2025. Before that, he held the CFO role at Equity Residential from September 2018 to 2025 and served as Treasurer from 2008 to 2018, having joined the company in 2004.
Chief Executive Officer Charles Young said Garechana brings "deep finance and capital markets experience" and cited disciplined capital allocation, operational optimization, and financial system improvement as areas of focus.
Garechana holds a B.B.A. from The University of Texas at Austin and was a member of the Nareit CFO Council. He also served on the board of directors of Upwardly Global, a nonprofit organization, where he held a role as Treasurer on its operating committee.
As of June 30, 2026, Sun Communities owned, operated, or had an interest in 455 developed properties comprising approximately 156,130 developed sites in the United States and Canada.
