Skillsoft names Matthew Cushing as chief legal officer

Skillsoft (NYSE: SKIL) has appointed Matthew J. Cushing as Chief Legal Officer, effective August 3, according to a company statement. Cushing will lead Skillsoft's global legal organization and report to Chief Executive Officer Ron Hovsepian.
Cushing brings approximately 30 years of experience in law, governance, and commercial leadership. He most recently served at Pegasystems, where he held the roles of General Counsel and Chief Commercial Officer over nearly nine years, during the company's transition to a cloud-first subscription model.
Before Pegasystems, Cushing served as Vice President and General Counsel of EnerNOC, where he was involved in the company's U.S. Supreme Court litigation in FERC v. EPSA. He also held the role of Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at Acme Packet, where he led the legal execution of Oracle Corporation's $2.1 billion acquisition of the company. Earlier in his career, he spent 17 years at Bingham McCutchen LLP, now Morgan Lewis, including more than a decade as a partner in its corporate practice.
Cushing succeeds Scott Semel, who had been serving as interim Chief Legal Officer. Hovsepian acknowledged Semel's contributions in the company statement.
Cushing holds a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and a B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross.
